Welcome to Collective Corals

Collective Corals started as a reefing community based in the South East of the UK, which has members now across the country and worldwide.  It is a place where people can share how they run their aquariums and a place to ask for advise from myself and other members of the reefing community.

I  have been in the Aquarium and pond hobby for over 20 years.  Originally with the love and interest in Koi Carp, which then followed onto the hobby of reefing in saltwater aquariums.

Over the years the hobby grew with the dedication to mixed reef aquarium with mainly SPS.

We as a community are dedicated to keeping these beautiful corals alive, as the world is changing due to climate change we can all make a difference to what is happening in our seas and look after our coral in our tanks as it might be needed for later generations, for them it could be the only coral they see, which is a very scary thought.

All of our corals and frags that I have available are all home grown and have been in my system for many years and mother colonies will not be fragged unless needing a trim, nothing has been imported and chopped up,  We are passionate about the health an wellbeing of our corals so would like you to be too.

Trying to keep everything happy in a glass box, bearing in mind that corals come from all over the world in different climates an conditions can be tricky but its easily done if you go about it in the right way.

Being in the hobby over the past 15 years the marine aquatics equipment an testing have become so much easier with the availability of off the shelf high quality test kits an even afforded lab grade testing kits.

These are the conditions that I keep my aquarium to in order to maintain a mixed reef

Salinity 1.026 (@26c)
Mg 1350-1400
Ca 430-450
Kh 8.6-9.0
Po4 0.0018 (with Elos High Resolution kit)
No3 1-2 (with salifert Kit) although I have kept a aquarium for many years at over 100 with no real problems other then loss of colour in some Arcopora which still continued to grow .

Stability is key in this hobby!

Whether your maintaining your parameters by dosing , calcium reactor or regular water changes with a good salt , we can provide you with the bespoke corals suited for your step in the hobby if your a beginner or somebody who's been in the hobby for many years

Soft corals / Zoas
Tend to be easier to keep as the demand for elements isn't so great Low-Medium light.

Lps (Large Polyp Stony)
Require slightly more care due to their skeleton base which requires the use of Calcium & Alkalinity.
These must be replenished with a form of dosing or regular water changes .

Sps (Small Polyp Stony)
Commonly know as hard corals because of their predominantly hard skeleton structure with very little flesh and small feeding polyp.
These corals require more replacing of elements and Calcium & Alkalinity then any other corals because of their dense skeleton which will use up more an more as it grows. They also require a lot higher an randomized high-medium flow an more intense lighting in most variety of species.

Coral Care:
Nobody can be confident that their systems are pest free.... I take a very passionate view on quarantining any new arrivals through a dipping regime, however I recommend that our buyers take the time to inspect and dip all corals thoroughly to avoid any possible undesirable hijackers, no matter where you buy corals from, take this common practice.

As mentioned all my coral frags come from my aquarium and I have a vast array fish which are predators to many pests.  I believe that any aquarium should aim to keep these "worker fish" particularly wrasse, pipe fish, urchins and many others in order to keep any unwanted pests from taking over their prized collection of corals.

Just want to say a big thank you to Dan, I’ve had many Frags from you and your advice has always been spot on. Love the fact that your all about people being happy with purchases, rather than how much you can make!!
With your help my tank and knowledge has grown so much over the years since  I have known you. Can’t wait to get my new tank ,as I’m starting to run out of room, but know I’ll have you just a call away to advise and then fill my tank with some quality pieces.

Just looking at Dan's tanks, you can tell he has a wealth of knowledge and experience. His coral frags are  second to none and are super healthy.
